Plein Air Oil Painting on a Misty Spring Morning

In an effort to find like-minded local artists to paint and chat with, I formed the South Jersey Plein Air Painters group last May. There is another local plein air group but they always meet on a weekday morning and for those of us who work full time, that won't do! I was joined by one friendly artist for the first several meetings but am so happy the group is finally expanding. We paint on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9-11am and then we usually go for coffee and treats afterwards and delve in to all things art chit chat which is just as fun as the painting!
The March outing was in Medford, NJ by an old barn and silo on "cowpath pasture" which is a beautiful farm field on Stokes Rd. There were 5 of us painting on that chilly morning. It was probably about 40 degrees and a gentle mist was softly blowing. It was a gray day but the purples in the distant tree line and the muted sea green of the field were beautiful! On a day like this, I would likely not have ventured out but so glad the SJPAP date lured me out to the beauty of this gray day! After 2 hours of painting, the fingers were frozen and clumsy, so we wrapped up and shared some coffee and the Medford Bagel Shop.
Next month will be to a tulip farm up a bit north in NJ- I can't wait!
Here are some pics from March's paint out. Come join us! You can find us on facebook, or on my instagram account which is www.instagram.com/kim.baker.paints.
